Terms of Service
These terms set out the rules for using 9science, what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you in return.
1.About these terms
These terms explain the agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“9science”, “we”, “us”) when you use our website and revision platform. Please read them before creating an account, because by signing up you agree to be bound by them.
If you do not agree with these terms, you should not use the service. If you have any questions about them, contact us using the details at the end of this page.
2.Definitions
In these terms, the following words have the following meanings:
- Account — the registered profile used to access the service.
- Account holder — the person who registers and, where a paid plan is taken, pays for the subscription.
- Content — all questions, explanations, textbook pages, flashcards, guides and other material we make available.
- Service — the 9science website, platform and any associated features.
- Student user — the person who uses the service to revise, who may or may not be the account holder.
3.Who can use 9science
The service is intended for students studying GCSE-level science in the United Kingdom, and for the parents and guardians who support them. There is a minimum age for holding an account, set out in our registration process.
Where the student user is under the age at which they can agree to these terms themselves, a parent or guardian must register as the account holder, accept these terms on their behalf, and remain responsible for their use of the service.
4.Accounts and security
You must give accurate registration details and keep them up to date. You are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for activity that takes place under your account.
Accounts are for a single named user. You may not share, sell or transfer your account or login details to anyone else.
If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, tell us as soon as possible so we can help you secure it.
5.Plans, pricing and payment
We offer a free plan and one or more paid subscription plans. The features included in each plan, and the price of each paid plan, are shown on our pricing page and may change from time to time.
Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis for the billing period you select. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store your full card details ourselves.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled beforehand. We will tell you in advance of any change to the price of your plan.
6.Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal; your access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
Consumers in the UK have a statutory right to cancel certain contracts within a set period after purchase. Where you ask us to make the service available to you immediately, this may affect that right.
7.Acceptable use
You agree to use the service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial revision purposes. In particular, you must not:
- copy, download in bulk, scrape or systematically extract our content;
- republish, resell or redistribute any part of the service;
- share your account or allow others to use it;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or to other users’ accounts;
- interfere with the operation, security or integrity of the service;
- use the service in a way that breaks the law or infringes anyone else’s rights.
We may suspend or close accounts that breach this section.
8.Our content and intellectual property
All content on the service is owned by us or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights. Your subscription gives you a personal, limited, non-transferable right to access and use it for your own revision while your account is active.
Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any content to you. Exam board specifications, qualification names and other third-party marks remain the property of their respective owners, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any exam board unless we state otherwise.
9.Your content and progress data
You keep ownership of anything you submit to the service. You grant us permission to store and process it as needed to operate the service and show you your progress.
How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.
10.Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep the service available and accurate, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error free. Access may be unavailable during maintenance or for reasons outside our control.
We continue to develop the service, and may add, change or remove features. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan includes, we will give you reasonable notice.
Our content is designed to support revision alongside your studies. It does not guarantee any particular exam result and is not a substitute for teaching from your school or college.
11.Third-party services and links
The service relies on third-party providers for functions such as payment processing and hosting, and may link to websites we do not control. We are not responsible for the content or practices of third-party sites.
12.Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability where the law does not allow it — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to that, our liability to you in connection with the service is limited as set out in this section, and we are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable when you agreed to these terms.
13.Suspension and termination
You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms, or if we are required to do so by law.
When an account ends, your right to use the service stops. We keep and delete information in line with the retention periods described in our privacy policy.
14.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the service or to the law. We will publish the updated version on this page and change the date shown at the top.
Where a change is significant, we will give you notice before it takes effect.
15.Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought before the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts.
