1.About this policy

This policy explains how [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] (“9science”, “we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and revision platform.

It sits alongside our privacy policy, which explains more generally how we handle personal information.

2.What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your computer, phone or tablet when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your settings between visits, and to give site owners information about how their site is being used.

We also use similar technologies, such as local storage in your browser, which work in much the same way. Where this policy refers to cookies, it covers those too.

3.Why we use cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in as you move between pages, to remember preferences such as your exam board and subjects, to keep the service secure, and to understand how the platform is used so we can improve it.

We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell information collected through cookies.

4.The cookies we use

The cookies we set fall into three groups.

Strictly necessary cookies

These are needed for the service to work. They do things like keep you signed in, remember what is in your account session, protect against fraudulent form submissions, and record your cookie choices so we do not ask you again on every page.

Because the service cannot run without them, these cookies are always active and do not require your consent. If you block them in your browser, parts of the site will not work properly.

Preference cookies

These remember choices you have made, so the service behaves the way you expect next time. Examples include your selected subject or exam board, and display settings.

Analytics cookies

These help us understand how the service is used — which pages are visited, which features are used, and where people run into problems — so we can improve it. The information is used in aggregate, to look at overall patterns rather than to track individuals.

Preference and analytics cookies are only set if you agree to them.

5.Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by the providers we rely on to run the service rather than by us directly. These include our payment provider, which uses cookies to process subscriptions securely and to help detect fraud, and any analytics provider we use.

We do not control how those providers use the information they collect. Their own privacy and cookie policies explain what they do with it.

6.Managing your cookie choices

When you first visit the site, we ask which cookies you are happy for us to use. Only strictly necessary cookies are set before you make that choice.

You can change your mind whenever you like using the cookie settings link in the footer of any page. Turning off a category stops those cookies being used going forward.

7.Managing cookies in your browser

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, where you can block cookies, delete cookies already stored, or ask to be warned before one is set. The help pages for your browser explain how.

Bear in mind that blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, will stop parts of the service working — you may not be able to stay signed in, for example.

8.Cookies and younger users

Many of our users are under 18, so we are careful about what we set. We do not use cookies to profile students for advertising, and any cookie that is not strictly necessary stays off until it is agreed to.

We aim to explain cookie choices in plain language so that students, not only parents, can understand what they are agreeing to.

9.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes or as we add or remove providers. We will publish the updated version on this page and change the date shown at the top.

10.Contact us

If you have any questions about how we use cookies, you can reach us at binu@9science.co.uk.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
